Environmental Report for the 50 years of Pagkrition Educational Institution
‘Energy-Environment’ is the topic of the report which will be presented next Wednesday 26 March 2014 siblings Despina and Alexandros Choumerianos. Both graduates of Pangkrition Educational Insitution, involved in the series of events ‘Back to school: Alumni chat with parents, students, educators’, organized on the occasion of the 50 years of the school since its founding.
In an educational event, open to the public, which will take place at 19:30 in the exhibition on 90 Minoos Avenue, the siblings will present a methodical and innovative work, addressed to young and older children, parents, teachers, and to every modern man with environmental prospects.
The exhibition ‘Energy-Environment’ created in 2010 to raise awareness on issues concerning the environment, as well as the dissemination of technological civilization through understanding of important concepts surrounding energy. Highlights energy conservation and use of its alternative forms, and proposes solutions and ideas for the protection of the environment and the mild utilisation of resources of our country.
With practical orientation, the exhibition brings students of all ages in a utilitarian touch with machinery and products that work with alternative forms of energy. Energy efficient machines using biomass as fuel, renewable energy source models, experimental models for modern and promising energy hydrogen technology are presented.
The story of the exhibition begins a long way back. At the beginning of the previous century, in 1910, the first machinery shop operated in the city of Heraklion (area of Chanioporta), by the Choumerianou family. With the then existing and rudimentary technical resources in this machinery shop, Choumerianou family manufactured and installed electrical generators, olive oil extractors for the first factories, as well as agricultural machinery. The machinery shop operated until May 1941, but because of its activities it was targeted and destroyed by the Germans.
Re-operated after the end of the war, and during the 70s the activities expanded by Miltos Choumerianos, child of 3rd generation of engineers, and in early 2000 by his son Alexandros.
The result of many years of experience in the manufacturing of multi-purpose machines, but especially the concern on issues for environmental protection have been the driving force for Choumerianos family, to focus part of its activities in educational activities on energy and its proper and efficient use.
The idea was developed by the children of Mr. Miltos Choumerianou, Alexandros and Despina, Pagkrition graduates. After their university studies they took an active role in the family business. Despina Choumerianou, Dr. in Molecular Biology, and Alexandros Choumerianos, graduate in Business Administration, are both executives of the company A&M Choumerianos and Tour Managers of the exhibition ‘Energy-Environment’. Having developed management skills for international exhibitions and museums, they researched appropriate educational models, designed and manufactured new machines, and created the Educational Exhibition ‘Energy-Environment’ with much enthusiasm and imagination, the first in Heraklion with educational orientation and practical, interactive character.
